Things to know for USPS’s Jan 26th Rate Changes

We all know the term “rate changes” usually mean increases when it comes to shipping carriers. Luckily, the update coming on Monday, January 26th isn’t all bad. If you use ShipStation (since you’re reading this, hopefully you are!), there’s even some good news. :) Here are the highlights:

First Class Letter & Postcard Rate

The rate for First Class postage is increasing from $0.46 to $0.49, with additional ounces now being $0.21 instead of $0.20. However, USPS is now giving discounts to those of you who use an online postage provider, like ShipStation. Check out the rate table below:

First Class Package Rate Increase

Rates on First Class Packages will increase by an average of about 5%, with the most increases on packages in the 1-3 oz. range.

New Countries Eligible for Delivery Confirmation

USPS is adding the following countries:

  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • Gibraltar
  • Hungary
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Malaysia
  • Malta
  • Portugal
  • Singapore

to those eligible for delivery confirmation on the rates:

  • First Class Mail International
  • Priority Mail International Flat Rate Envelope
  • Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box

New Zone 9

A new zone was created for the Freely Associated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, and Palau, and will reduce the costs for Zone 8 packages.

Weight Limit Increase for Mexico

Packages with a Mexican destination can now be up to 70 lbs. in weight instead of 44 lbs.
