How did your mission to help diabetic dogs through treats begin?

Vintek Nutrition, LLC (2009) was started in response to a break-through discovery to save our beloved diabetic dog. Vinny, our (8 year old) Italian Greyhound was dying because he was insulin resistant. Kameron developed a formula (Dia-Treaties®) that not only worked on Vinny, but was eventually tested on dogs all over the country. Our products recently received a US Patent. Of the approximate 400m dogs worldwide, diabetes is estimated to affect as many as 1 in 50. Dia-Treaties® works to enhance the utilization of injected insulin. Vinny lived to almost 15 years old, well past the normal life expectancy of 13.

Creating such a complex product line must have had its difficulties; what was the biggest hurdle you had to overcome?

The formula was correct the first time – a miracle. Certified Financial Planners™ by trade, the business side of the equation is in our comfort zone. Having to learn the food industry was a challenge. At first, we made it ourselves, by hand, in a certified FDA kitchen – every weekend. It is a very difficult item to produce. Through research, we have perfected the process to mass produce it and it is now manufactured in an FDA inspected facility in Sioux Falls, SD. Other notable events: We noticed the dramatic results pertaining to other problem areas regarding both the treatment of skin and coat conditions (Sterling Coat®) and overall increase in vitality (Vitali-Treaties®) and derived these products to help dog owners facing those issues.

How has ShipStation helped you with your business?

We are extremely busy with our financial planning business. Now that we have our products manufactured for us, we still needed to SHIP it. Our needs became apparent after our story was featured in the July 2014 issue of the international publication, Guideposts, and then the orders expanded exponentially and shipping became very time consuming. We were using a competing shipping product that required SQL server and access to our internal server. That was not working for us. I researched ShipStation and it was what we needed to go to the next level. I visited with the owner that manufactures our products and their team agreed to store our products (cold storage) and ship them. We set up ShipStation with 2 seats; brought out a printer and they fulfill our orders to people all over the world from both selling venues: BigCommerce and Amazon.

What’s your favorite ShipStation feature?

I LOVE ShipStation because: I can see what they do in real-time; assist if needed; ship from my office as a backup and for security reasons – they do not need access to my server. ShipStation has all the features and benefits of a complete shipping product. I specifically like how it e-mails the tracking information to my clients and how it prints the 4 labels necessary for international shipping. Because of ShipStation, we have more time to work ON our business and concentrate on marketing our products. We need to focus on getting the word out to all those people with dogs suffering from diabetes, skin and coat issues or dogs that need an energy boost.
