Putting the Pieces Together: Editing Content Videos

There’s been a theme throughout our pieces on creating your own product photography and videos: Give it a try. Don’t know how to shoot a video? Grab a camera or iPhone and do it. Don’t have a ‘clean’ environment to display a product? Build a DIY studio. Never recorded audio and combined it with video for a cohesive, thought-out video? DO IT!

This is the sort of thing that will get easier with experience and practice. So above all else, if you walk away from this blog with anything, let it be this: Producing a video seems daunting. But you do it all the time: when you shorten a clip of your dogs running around, or add text to an Instagram Story, you’re producing a video. Editing a video is the same: the more you play, the more you learn.

Austin touched on editing audio in our last blog on product and marketing videos. We use Adobe Premiere, which comes in at about $19.99/month (but does have a free trial).

iMovie

But what if you don’t want to spend the money? If you’re on a Mac, just dig up iMovie! See how to get started here:

Lightworks

For another free piece of editing software, check out Lightworks. It works with Mac, Windows, AND Linux, so all your bases are covered.

TechRadar also has a few more free programs worth checking out, but between Adobe Premiere, iMovie, and Lightworks, we think you’ll find what you need out of an editing software.
