For decades, women in manufacturing, construction, and the trades have faced an uncomfortable reality: safety footwear wasn’t designed for them. Most brands simply shrank men’s boots and added a splash of pink\u2014what industry insiders call the “shrink it and pink it” approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Squarespace to Shopify\u2014and beyond<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Xena launched on Squarespace before quickly migrating to Shopify<\/a> in 2019\u2014a decision that proved crucial for significant ecommerce growth. The pandemic created an unexpected tailwind: while demand temporarily dipped as people stayed home from work sites, consumer comfort with ordering shoes online surged. Xena was positioned to capitalize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But growth brought complexity. The team now processes approximately 2,000 orders per month across multiple channels, including its Shopify store, Amazon, and EDI orders that feed into retail locations nationwide. Orders flow through an order management system called Luminous<\/a> before routing to multiple warehouses for fulfillment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When integration becomes everything<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Xena had been using Shippo, but as the company’s tech stack evolved, one thing became clear: the team needed software that could keep up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shipup didn’t integrate with Luminous, the company’s order management system. That gap meant manual workarounds, such as copying and pasting order data, and inefficiencies that would only compound as volume increased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision to switch came down to practicality. ShipStation<\/a> integrates directly with Xena’s existing systems, creating a streamlined path from order to label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Implementation can be daunting for operations teams juggling daily fulfillment demands. Dmitry expected the switch to be a heavy lift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I was excited, obviously, because we needed to do something. But I was also like, ‘Oh man, this is going to be a challenge\u2014it’s a full project to do an implementation,'” he said. “But ShipStation’s implementation team was unreal. It was probably the smoothest that I’ve ever experienced.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team was up and running within a month, with a gradual rollout that let them test, adjust, and gain confidence along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I actually don’t know how we would have done this otherwise without a lot of copy-pasting, which would be terrible,” Dmitry said. “Just saving us time on our whole workflow has been great.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
