ShipStation is proud to announce that our carrier partner Canada Post is now carbon-neutral for all ground shipments. This should come as good news since conservation and sustainability play a big role in how Canadians shop. According to Canada Post research, 63% of Canadians want to know what businesses are doing to adopt sustainable business practices. As consumers take measures to reduce their carbon footprint, there are still larger steps that can be taken. Global supply chains and market trends largely rely on fossil fuels and unsustainable business practices.

This is why the largest delivery company in Canada is committed to reducing its carbon emissions with the long-term objective of becoming net zero. As of earlier this year, all Canada Post ground services are now carbon neutral. Their plan doesn’t stop there. They also plan to reduce operational greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 with the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Which Canada Post Services are Carbon Neutral

The recent introduction of carbon-neutral shipping from Canada Post provides sustainable delivery options for businesses and Canadians.  All ground shipments are carbon neutral, including their popular services Canada Post Regular Parcel™ and Canada Post Expedited Parcel™. If you use these services, you are choosing a carbon-neutral service. You don’t have to opt in, there’s no additional surcharge, it’s part of the service offering. When you choose a ground service in ShipStation, Canada Post will offset the carbon emissions associated with the shipment. Canada Post is investing in carbon offsets by partnering with the Great Bear Forest Carbon Project to offset carbon emissions.

Canada Post’s Path to Net Zero

Canada Post aims to electrify its fleet of 14,000 vehicles to 50% electric vehicles by 2030 and 100% by 2040. They are testing other low-carbon options for last mile delivery fleet including e-cargo tricycles and other low-speed vehicles. Additional initiatives include reaching zero waste by 2030 with steps such as waste audits, enhanced recycling services, waste education workshops for employees, and investing in water bottle filling stations at key sites across the network.
