Packing slips might seem mundane or almost more of a behind-the-scenes piece of paper. But if you use them right, they can be a great piece of ecommerce marketing and one of the first things your customer sees when they open the box.

So let’s see how you can use ShipStation’s branded packing slips to improve the shipping experience!

Step 1: Upload Your Logo

First of all, you’re going to want to make sure you have your logo uploaded to ShipStation. The video below gives you step-by-step instructions on how to do that.

Pro-Tip: In order to have the best looking logo in smaller spaces (the packing slip and shipping label, to be precise), check out this article from our knowledge base.

Step 2: Update the Footer

Now that you have the logo on there, what else can you do? For starters, add something to the footer! Custom edits to the packing slip require a a bit of HTML experience and e a Silver level subscription. However, adding to the footer of branded packing slips is available on ALL plans.

To add a footer, click over to Packing Slip tab (it’s just a few over from the Branding tab). The footer is a great place to add a call-to-action for your customer.

(By the way, this page is essential to a lot of the rest of our ShipStation 101s.)

  • Do you want them to follow you on social media? Add your channel!
  • Do you use a particular hashtag? Include that!
  • You can also add on a coupon code. For example, free shipping on their next order or X% off a related product.

This is the perfect moment to entice your customer to come back and shop some more. They’re never as captive as they are while opening their package (or waiting for its arrival, but we’ll get to that in a week or so).

Step 3: Reap the Benefits of Branded Packing Slips

Take advantage of a piece of paper that’s already expected and most businesses don’t think about. Packing slips can be boring. They can be plain and simply informative. But they don’t have to be. With a little bit of tweaking, you can add branded packing slips into your marketing strategy and start moving your brand forward.
