Selling products across multiple channels is a great way to grow your business, but tracking inventory across those channels can be a frustrating task. Inaccurate stock counts can even lose you customers, and damage your relationship with selling platforms. Innovation Delivered is our ongoing initiative to solve pain points like this, which is why we’re excited to introduce our new Inventory Sync add-on.

What Does Inventory Sync Do?

Inventory Sync is our solution for tracking inventory across all of your selling channels. Instead of having to integrate with third party softwares or keep track manually, stock levels are automatically updated as your products are sold. These stock levels are pulled from either ShipStation Inventory or ShipStation 3PL, or both. You can then decide what stores you want to be updated. The stores ShipStation currently syncs your inventory with are: Amazon, BigCommerce, eBay, Etsy, Shopify, Walmart, and WooCommerce, with more coming soon! Check here for the latest. With this new visibility you have into your real-time inventory counts, you can easily manage inventory across multiple channels from within ShipStation.

Why Should You Sync Your Inventory?

You can’t sell what you don’t have. Showing that you have an item in stock when you actually don’t can lead to canceled orders, and maybe the loss of a customer. On the opposite end, less-than-accurate stock counts could result in underselling. Both situations are frustrating, but can be avoided altogether by syncing your inventory through ShipStation.

Having accurate stock levels across all your channels will help reduce errors, save you time, and improve customer satisfaction.

Of course you want your customers to be satisfied, but you need to keep the channels you sell on satisfied as well. Your customers don’t like having their orders canceled, but the selling channels may like it even less. For example, when you cancel an order on eBay due to the item being out of stock, they consider that a transaction defect. This is factored into your seller performance, and could negatively affect your seller rating if it occurs too often. This has the potential to impact your business on a much larger scale than just one customer. By syncing your inventory, you can avoid this problem and sell with confidence.

How to Enable Inventory Sync

To start syncing your inventory, you must first activate it through the Add-On Marketplace.

  • Go to Account Settings, and select Add-Ons.
  • Select View Details or Try for Free on the Inventory Sync add-on.
  • Review the details, and confirm the activation.

Once you’ve done that, Inventory Sync will appear in the Active section of the page. Now, you need to set up the details specific to your store.

  • Go to Settings > Inventory Management > Inventory Sync, and click the Set Up Inventory Sync button.
  • Select the Sources you want to pull your inventory from, and the stores you want to sync with.
  • Save the configuration

Just like that, you’re set up! You can now sell with the peace of mind that your inventory levels will be accurate everywhere they’re listed. If you’re looking for further information, check out our Help Center article on the subject.
